Job Description:
The SUNY Office of Sustainability and Climate Action seeks an intern in our Albany or New York City locations interested in working on environmental issues across our system, helping implement the SUNY Climate and Sustainability Action Plan, Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act and Executive Order 22, including the assessment of carbon emissions, the identification of opportunities for reductions, and the development systemwide policies and goals. The intern will gain experience working in a professional environment under the guidance of experienced practitioners and will have the satisfaction of contributing to the State's ambitious climate program through state-wide planning, programming, and policy within SUNY and in coordination with other agencies. This is also a terrific opportunity for a student to hone skills and start to develop a professional network in the sustainability field and in the close- knit network of related agencies (DEC, NYSERDA, NYPA, OGS, Parks, DOT, and others).
The internship is only open to currently enrolled SUNY students. We strongly encourage first generation college students to apply. We also strongly encourage students from disadvantaged and frontline communities to apply, as those communities are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, and to discuss thoughts on climate action in disadvantaged communities in the application cover letter. Interested candidates are invited to apply by submitting a cover letter, resume, and confirmation of full-time SUNY enrollment to sustainability@suny.edu or through Interview Exchange by March 28, 2025.
