Traffic Control (TC) must maintain a safe work zone that ensures that traffic stays out of the way of the workers, following all MUCTD and Company guidelines. This involves setting up and removing temporary cones, signs, variable message boards, and safety barriers that show traffic where to drive, as well as holding up signs that inform traffic to either stop or to proceed slowly. Traffic-control technicians must be constantly aware of both the self-loader driver and traffic activity taking place around them. The TC Team has the responsibility to protect the lives of our drivers, customers, motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and themselves on the roadway.
Work week is Monday – Friday (sometimes overnight) and some Saturday/Sundays of full-time, year-round work and occasional emergency work.
Position/Safety Requirements:
- Must have a valid CDL Class C with Clean DMV Report
- Must lift, carry, and set up signs, cones, etc., up to 50 lbs. around work areas to divert traffic.
- Will have to stand while flagging in various weather conditions and at various jobsite locations throughout the day; for up to 14 hours a day.
- Most of the workday will consist of driving. Traffic Control duration at each job site location will be about 45-minutes.
- Follow all company and OSHA safety rules and regulations and wear proper PPE (hard hats, high visibility vests, eyewear, boots, etc.)
- Adhere to all Contractor and Company Policies and Procedures
- Meet or exceed customer, state, federal and company expectations
- Must be able to communicate with the traveling public, drivers, co-workers, dispatchers, and supervisors effectively and manage truck inventory and job site materials and paperwork.
- Recognize dangers using your hearing and vision and handle stress appropriately
- Complete daily paperwork accurately and upload to Vector/Samsara
- Follow provided routes/maps and travel to job sites in a company vehicle.
- Must be willing to travel to all work regions, potentially half of the day may be spent driving from one site to the next, staying for the night or the week depending on the job.
- When overnight stays are required; Shifflet will pay for hotel rooms and give employees a meal allowance of $35 per overnight stay.
- Be available during emergency work (fires, storms, etc.)
- Able to pass a pre-employment drug test and random drug testing after hire.
- Pass a criminal background check and a fit for duty exam
- Participate in safety training, daily tailboard meetings and accident prevention programs
- Work well in a team environment
- All other duties as assigned
Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily outdoors. Team member is exposed to a variety of outside weather conditions.
